The Open University has recently launched its new TM128 Microsoft Server Technologies course, which is a great introduction to the fundamentals of computer networking and server technologies.

The course is an ideal starting point for anyone who’s looking to extend their knowledge and understanding of IT.

Undergraduate opportunities

These courses in Microsoft server technologies and Cisco networking may be of interest to technicians working in schools as well as IT co-ordinators wishing to extend their knowledge and expertise.

TM128: Microsoft server technologies

This undergraduate course offers a sound grounding in the fundamentals of computer networking and server technologies working with current Microsoft Windows server technology. On successful completion of this course, and through additional practice exercises, you will be able take an industry-recognised Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification examination.

T216: Cisco networking (CCNA)

As a Cisco Academy, The Open University offers the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Exploration curriculum at undergraduate level, which provides the knowledge, understanding, and skills needed to configure a LAN/WAN using Cisco equipment. You’ll also gain hands-on experience of configuring networks at four compulsory day schools. When you’ve completed the course you should be well prepared for the industry-standard CCNA certification examination.

As a Cisco Academy, the Open University can offer you the opportunity to study the Cisco Certified Network Professional courses at post-graduate level.

T825: Wide area networks - CCNP 2

This course will provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to manage secure communication across a large scale internetwork using Cisco equipment. You will also be expected to undertake individual research to contextualise Cisco in the broader networking environment. You will be provided with hands-on lab experience via Netlabs™. If you successfully complete T825 and T827 you can progress to complete the CCNP TSHOOT certification.

T827: Optimising networks - CCNP 4

Cisco Systems are worldwide leaders in networking technologies, for telecommunication, corporate and private networking. You will be provided with the knowledge, understanding and skills to troubleshoot communication on large-scale data networks using Cisco equipment and extend your research skills. You will be provided with hands-on lab experience via Netlabs™ and at the day school. If you successfully complete T825 and T827 you should be able to progress and complete the CCNP SHOOT certification.
