About Vital
Vital will enable schools and colleges to engage in their own professional development at lower cost, better suited to local needs, and in a more direct manner than conventional course based programmes.
What does Vital offer?
Our remit is evolving. We intend to cover:
- the embedded use of new technologies across the curriculum (e.g. teaching geography)
- digital literacy
- computing (the discipline)
- IT (the subject)
- the use of data (e.g. MIS)
What is Vital?
Vital is delivered by The Open University and part-funded by the Department for Education. It aims to support practitioners in sharing their expertise and thus enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
The core ethos and approach of the programme are centred on the idea that teachers are the experts in education. Vital's role is to support teachers in extending and sharing their expertise, and ultimately re-taking ownership of teaching as a discipline.
