Vital Professional Programme

The backbone of the partnership is the Vital Professional Programme, the structured support Vital provide to develop a member of staff in becoming a Vital Professional.

The support programme is made up of the following:

  • Induction session
An interactive webinar, establishing the role of the Vital Professional and the scope of the partnership.
  • Introduction to video conferencing
An informative webinar, introducing users to video conferencing and the key rules for communicating effectively online.
  • Vital Professional handbook
This is the core of the programme and contains all the information needed to launch and implement the Partnership, work effectively with colleagues and record evidence of impact.
  • Modules
Two Open University quality modules (see below for details).

Modules

Our modules form a key part of the Partnership. Each module is made up of the following:

  • 1.5 hours of preparatory study materials
  • 1.5 hour interactive webinar
  • Follow up activities to put learning into practice

The webinar is an interactive video conference, facilitated by an expert and delivered via Blackboard Collaborate (formerly known as Elluminate). They are held at times best suited to those working in a school environment.
Each Vital Professional can select any two modules that meet their own professional development requirements.

The Modules currently available are:

Subject and special interest portals

The subject and special interest portals are our "one stop shops"; the place for educators to find up to date information on teaching and learning resources.

Each Vital Professional has access to all the subject portals whilst 19 additional members of staff can access any portal of their choosing. Access is for 1 year from the date of purchase. From September 2012, all subscribers will be given access to all 11 portals.

The portals contain links to the very best subject relevant resources available on the web and advice about how to use them effectively to motivate students and enhance their learning. They are maintained by subject specialists - well known leaders in their own fields, helping to keep teachers up to date in the classroom. The portals also offer opportunities for sharing resources and expertise between professionals.

Community

The Vital Professional website area is the key channel of communication for the programme and is home to essential information and documentation. It includes a dedicated discussion forum and enables Vital Professionals to exchange ideas and resources with their peers and sign up for online and face to face networking events.

Certification

On becoming a Partner, your school will receive a partnership certificate. Once a Vital Professional has implemented some professional development activity as a result of the programme, they can apply for accreditation and if successful, achieve Accredited Vital Professional status.
